In this article, we will provide you with a guide on how to configure Siemens's XPRS devices using the siemens configuration tool. If you have a Siemens device that is configured by the default values supplied by the manufacturer or if you just bought it and haven't yet configured it, then this information may be of interest to you. You may also check our Modernizing XPRS Devices Guide for more general information on configuring Siemens devices.This guide is intended only to provide users with some background information on how configuring their device works and what some common issues are when configuring these types of devices. For specific configuration examples, please check out our Modernizing XPRS Devices Guide.This is the original Siemens Configuration tool SWT330A for XPRS devices. This software can be used for configuration of all Siemens XPRS devices. This article will be based on this software and usage of this software to configure a Siemens SWT3xx0 series of switch.This file is distributed with the Siemens Configuration Tool and can be found under: bin > swt330a > swt3270a_sct (or similar)"swt3270a sct" or "swt3270c sct", for example. The first step will be to configure your device. In our example, we will configure a Siemens SWT-3270A.In the first screen that you see, you must select your device from the drop down box.In this example, we have selected the Siemens SWT-3270A from the drop down box. You should see a screen similar to this:If you look at the bottom of this screenshot, there is a tab called "Initial Setup" which will allow you to configure your device using default values or using custom values if desired. If you click on the "Initial Setup" tab, you will be prompted to select the configuration type.In this example, we want to use default values for our device. You should see the following screen:If you decide that you do not want to use default values and you wish to use different values for your device, then those custom values can be input by clicking on the "Customize" box.This will bring up a new pop-up window that asks for information about the device. The first step is to input your switch's serial number.This will bring up a new pop-up window that asks where your switches are located in relation to each other. The second step is to input the location of your switches in relation to each other using numbers followed by "+". The following example shows the relationship between our device and another switch.If you wish to add additional switches, they can be inputs within the same manner.If you look at this screenshot, we see that we have two devices in this office and we wish to add another one. As long as they are all in the same place, you can simply add them by navigating to "+" and then inputting their serial numbers and locations.
